Cheese slaw is a "salad" consisting of grated cheese, grated carrot and a mayonnaise dressing. Its origins can be traced to far north Queensland. It is also found extensively in Broken Hill. The word is a portmanteau of the words cheese and coleslaw. Cheese slaw is very similar to some coleslaw recipes, but is distinguished by the inclusion of cheese. It often doesn't contain cabbage, as per coleslaw. Cheese slaw may contain other vegetables, such as broccoli.
