David R. Shedd is a retired U.S. intelligence officer whose final post was as the acting Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency. He is a former Central Intelligence Agency operative. According to Obama's Wars, a 2010 book by investigative journalist Bob Woodward, CIA Director Michael Hayden used Shedd, then Deputy Director of National Intelligence, to physically demonstrate to President-elect Barack Obama the mildness of enhanced interrogation techniques, softly slapping and shaking him.
