The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 5 west of Schenectady in the village of Scotia. Its northern terminus is at a junction with NY 29 in the town of Galway. NY 147 intersects NY 67 in the town of Charlton and serves mainly as a connector between the Schenectady area and the region surrounding Great Sacandaga Lake.
