Old Greenlandic is the period in the history of the Greenlandic language between the 16th and 17th centuries. It evolved from Proto-Inuit, and gave rise to Middle Greenlandic and subsequently Modern Greenlandic. It is attested by a considerable bulk of sources, but is difficult to parse due to the major inconsistencies in transcription and the lack of notation for vowel length, among other features. Two standardized othrographies existed, by both Poul Egede and Otto Fabricius.
