The Miraj Kila was given to the Patwardhan's by Madhavrao Peshwa as a reward to Govind hari Patwardhan as bhehada (jhagir) for fighting in the wars and providing troop.The Patwardhan is a Maratha dynasty in India, whose members previously ruled over Miraj, Miraj extended from the river Krishna to the river Tiungabhadra princely states of the British Raj. These included Jamkhandi, Kuruntwad, Miraj, Tasgaon and Sangli.
