Timur was on his way to carry out his heavily planned invasion of Georgia but was forced to return east to Khorasan after many cities in that region revolted. One of the major cities to revolt was Isfizar. The revolt went badly and most of the citizens were killed by Timur's army. The few survivors were cemented into the walls of the city. He did this to discourage any future revolts and it worked.
