After conquering Zaranj several months before, Timur then heads for Tabriz, on his way to resume his interrupted Georgian campaign. After a 7 day siege, Tabriz finally falls to Timur and its citizens may likely have been massacred. Most of the city might also have been destroyed and if so, might have been rebuilt by either a regional governor or a successor of Timur. To solidify his control over Iranian Azerbaijan, Timur goes to Maragha and captures it.
