William "Spaceman" Patterson is a composer, arranger, producer, music director, director and entrepreneur who has collaborated with Miles Davis and James Brown. He was one of the musicians in Davis' line-up in the 1980s. He also produced Melvin Van Peebles album Ghetto Gothic. In 1992, Patterson provided music for Ntozake Shange's The Love Space Demands, an adaptation of some of her poetry.
