They were designed in the United Kingdom and were modified versions of the Royal Navy's County class. They were built in Spain by the Vickers-Armstrongs subsidiary Sociedad Espa\u00F1ola de Construcci\u00F3n Naval. The two ships completed, Canarias and Baleares, both saw service during the Spanish Civil War, the latter being sunk."@en .
