"The Great Gatchina Palace (Russian: \u0411\u043E\u043B\u044C\u0448\u043E\u0439 \u0413\u0430\u0442\u0447\u0438\u043D\u0441\u043A\u0438\u0439 \u0434\u0432\u043E\u0440\u0435\u0446) was built in 1766\u20131781 in Gatchina town (near St. Pertersburg) by Antonio Rinaldi for Count Grigori Grigoryevich Orlov who was a favourite of Catherine II. The Gatchina Palace is located on the hill above Lake Serebryannoe. It combines themes of a medieval castle and a country residence.
