It is found in Ohio, New York, Virginia, Massachusetts, Illinois, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, California, Ontario and Quebec.The wingspan is 4-5.5 mm.The larvae feed on Quercus species, including Quercus prinus, Quercus platanoides and Quercus alba.
